‎The tech universe is buzzing with anticipation as apple intends to unveil its latest flagship devices – the iPhone 17 series.

‎With every new release, the tech giants continue to limit the boundaries of innovation and the anticipated iPhone 17 series is not to be an exception. Apple’s iPhone series has consistently set the bar high for smartphones, and with rumors of improved performance, new camera features and a lot more, fans are eagerly anticipating the 17 series, the next generation devices.

In this article, we will look at the latest rumors, expectations and gist stemming from the release of the series, giving you an insight of what might just be Apple’s biggest thing yet.

Release Date and Design

The release and announcement date is set for the 9th of September, which is 4 days from the day this article was written, around 9:10 AM pacific time in Steve Job’s Theater.

‎According to Forbes, the series will feature four new phones, at least two Apple watches and perhaps new Air-pods. The phones will be the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a super thin model, possibly called the iPhone 17 Air.

‎The standard iPhone 17 is to look like the current iPhone 16, with most attention focusing on the iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro models. There hasn’t been a lot of specific information heard in the iphone 17, besides that it would be one of the new series that would not get most of the newest features, especially in terms of design. The new series will have a larger display size, with rumors suggesting that the iPhone 17 display will be 6.3 inches, a rise from the iPhone 16 6.1 inches display. The standard iPhone 17 will be the same size with the current iPhone 16 Pro, which might also be the size Apple intends to use for the iPhone 17 Pro.

‎Apple is eliminating the Plus model entirely, so there is going to be just one phone in the series with the lowest price – the standard iPhone 17. As the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro rock their 6.3-inch screens, the iPhone 17 Air has a 6.6, and 6.9 inches for the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

‎The iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro models are rumored to have a new rectangular camera bar with rounded corners. The camera bar covers the top part of the phone. The standard iPhone 17 might retain the iPhone 16 looks with two rear cameras in a vertical alignment at the top right corner. The colors are rangung from black, white, to steel gray, purple and green.

There is also a rumor on narrower Dynamic Islands on all four models, while some say there will be no visible changes compared to that of the iPhone 16. The 17 Plus was removed to make room for the iPhone 17 Air, or iPhone 17 Slim, Apple is yet to release an official name for the device, but Air sound more like Apple., with their Mac Book Air.

‎ The iPhone 17 Air will be Apple’s thinnest phone, followed by the iPhone 6, which is the thinnest so far. It weighs 145 milligrams. There might be a shift from the titanium fram back to the aluminum frame which Apple has not used since the iPhone X, in 2017.

‎The iPhone 17 Pro models are rumored to have been made durable to drops due to the half aluminum and half glass back it would feature, a shyft from Apple’s flagship all-glass back. They would also have a rectangular horizontal camera bump made entirely out of aluminium. The usual triangular camera arrangement remains the same, despite the significant changes in the camera bump.

‎There might also be a logo relocation. The logo is rumored to have been moved lower than usual in the iphone 17 Pro models in order to accommodate the new camera bump. The logo is said to have been inserted into the magsafe circle, giving it a whole new look.

Display

‎Wth the release of the series, Apple plans to bring pro features into standard models, with new enhancements and coatings.

‎The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air would feature same OLED panel as the current iPhone 16 Pro, with a 30% increment in brightness and improved longevity.

‎The Pro models will feature a scratch-resistant anti-reflective display coating which will prevent minor scratches and screen damage.

‎Apple is expected to expand the 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate to the entire new series lineup. There are rumors that the standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air models will include ProMotion refresh rates which would enable always-on display and provide smoother scrolling and video content.

Camera

‎All models of the iPhone 17 series are rumored to have a 24-megapixel selfie camera, which is an improvement from the 12-megapixel in the iPhone 16 series.

‎The iPhone 17 Pro Max would be the first iPhone to feature three 48-megapixel cameras, with a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera, 48-megapixel Wide camera and a 48-megapixel Tetra-prism Telephoto camera. It would also be the first to support 8K video recording.

‎The iPhone 17 Air will have a single-lens 48-megapixel rear camera, while the standard iPhone 17 will have a dual-lens camera system, with a Wide and Ultra Wide camera.

‎The iPhone 17 Pro models could feature a mechanical aperture that will allow users to control the amount of sunlight reaching the lens. They might also support dual video recording, allowing users to record simultaneously with front and back camera, suitable for content creation.

‎The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will include a 5x Telephoto optical zoom lens which will not be present in the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air.

Memory and Chip

‎We expect the A19 Chip technology likely built on an upgraded 3-nanometer processor. An efficient chip technology, making this iPhone series faster than the existing ones.

‎The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to include and A19 Pro chip, while the standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air could have the standard A19 Chip, although the iPhone 17 Air might have one fewer GPU core than the iPhone 17 Pro models.

‎The iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Air are expected to include 12GB RAM, an upgrade from the 8GB RAM in the iPhone 16. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 17 would retain the previous 8GB RAM.

‎The iPhone 17 Air is expected to get and Apple-designed 5G modem, with Apple continuing to use Qualcomm modems for the other iPhone 17 models. This chip will be capable of downloading up to 4GB of data in a second, although it would not support the fastest mmWave5G.

‎For the SIM tray, Apple is expected to get rid of them in more countries just like they began in the United States, with their iPhone 14. The iPhone Air would be in possession of no SIM tray because of how slim it is intended to be.

‎All the models in the series are expected to support 25 Watts charging with third-party wireless charging that supports Qi2.2 wireless charging standard. They might also have reverse wireless charging.

Pricing

‎The iPhone 17 Air could be priced at $899, which was the price of the current iPhone 16 Plus. The standard iPhone 17 models could see a $50 dollar increase, which would mean that the iPhone 17 price would start at $850.

‎The iPhone 18 Pro models that are coming in 2026 might feature under-display Face ID which would cut down on the size of the Dynamic Island. Apple could also release an iPhone with an all-screen display design with no cutouts. Apple’s foldable phone is also expected in 2026, and will launch alongside the iPhone 18 Air and iPhone 18 Pro models.
